A man has been seriously injured following an industrial accident on Leicester Avenue in Doncaster on Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 9:48am after reports that a contracted road worker was struck by machinery. The Yorkshire Ambulance Service dispatched multiple resources, including an air ambulance, and the man was taken by road to hospital. His condition has not been disclosed.
Leicester Avenue was closed by South Yorkshire Police while emergency crews attended. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with one local resident saying the man was “badly hurt and screaming” as colleagues tried to turn off the machinery and manage traffic.
Doncaster Council issued a statement expressing concern for the injured worker and confirming they are working closely with emergency services. A spokesperson said:
“Our thoughts are with the injured worker and their family. We are fully cooperating with all authorities involved.”
DB Construction, the employer of the injured man, said it is “deeply concerned” and prioritising the worker’s welfare. The company confirmed it is assisting with investigations and conducting its own internal review.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) confirmed it is aware of the incident and that inspectors will be attending the site today alongside South Yorkshire Police to investigate.
The road remains closed as the investigation and recovery efforts continue.
