As part of a large-scale cleaning initiative, New Forest District Council’s streetscene team has removed more than 100 bags of litter and around 20 tonnes of mud, debris, and dirt from roads in Fordingbridge and Totton.

The clean-up operation focused on key transport routes, including the A35 Spicers Hill, A326, A35 between Rushington and Redbridge, and the A354 at Martin. Crews carried out extensive litter collection and road sweeping to help ensure road safety and cleanliness across these high-traffic areas.

Local authorities are urging residents and motorists to dispose of waste properly by using designated litter bins. The council collaborates with Hampshire County Council to maintain clean highways and promote environmental responsibility throughout the district.

A council spokesperson expressed appreciation for the efforts of local volunteers, stating:“Thank you to everyone who contributes to keeping our area clean, including individuals and community groups. If you're participating in a litter pick, please avoid dangerous locations like verges or busy roads, and always seek the landowner’s permission where required. We have safety guidelines for community litter picking available on our website.”

This clean-up forms part of the council’s broader goal to enhance the local environment, support road safety, and encourage community engagement in preserving the district's appearance.
