The Grantham Southern Relief Road project has been recognised among the UK's highest-performing construction schemes after securing a prestigious Gold Award at the 2026 Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards.

The accolade places the Lincolnshire infrastructure project among the country's leading construction sites, recognising exceptional performance across a range of areas including community engagement, environmental management, workforce welfare and site operations.

Representatives from the project team collected the award during the national ceremony held in Manchester, where construction projects from across the UK were recognised for demonstrating best practice and raising standards across the industry.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a nationally recognised initiative designed to improve the image of construction by encouraging projects to operate responsibly, minimise disruption and deliver positive outcomes for local communities.

Sites are independently assessed against a rigorous set of criteria covering health and safety, environmental performance, workforce wellbeing, site appearance and engagement with residents and stakeholders.

Lincolnshire County Council said the award reflects the high standards maintained throughout the delivery of one of the county's most significant transport infrastructure investments.

Councillor David East, Executive Member for Highways, described the achievement as a significant milestone for everyone involved in the scheme.

He said the award demonstrates that major infrastructure can be delivered while maintaining a strong focus on safety, environmental responsibility, workforce support and community relations.

The recognition continues a successful track record for the project under the Considerate Constructors Scheme. The Grantham Southern Relief Road has previously received Bronze Awards, while principal contractor Galliford Try has achieved eight perfect CCS assessment scores since 2021.

Sam Edwards, Head of Highways Infrastructure, said the Gold Award highlights the commitment and collaboration shown by all parties involved throughout the construction programme.

He noted that the Considerate Constructors Scheme sets demanding standards across the industry, making national recognition particularly significant.

Once completed, the 3.5-kilometre relief road will form a key new transport link for Grantham, helping to reduce congestion and improve journey reliability across the town.

The scheme is expected to divert traffic away from the town centre, reducing delays, improving accessibility and creating a more attractive environment for residents, businesses and visitors.

In addition to easing traffic pressures, the project is intended to unlock development

opportunities, support economic growth and improve access to future housing and employment sites.

The council also expects the new route to contribute towards lower vehicle emissions and reduced traffic noise within Grantham by improving traffic flow and reducing congestion on existing roads.

The Gold Award provides further recognition of the project's delivery approach as work continues on a scheme that is expected to deliver long-term transport, economic and environmental benefits for the town and wider Lincolnshire area.
