Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that Gallows Corner, a key roundabout linking Romford with central Essex, will reopen in Spring 2026 after being closed for nearly seven months.

The junction, which connects the A12, A127, and Main Road, was closed in June 2025 for major strengthening and refurbishment works. The closure, initially planned for just three months, has caused significant traffic disruption in the area, affecting local residents and businesses.

The project involves a full overhaul of the 1970s Gallows Flyover, which was in urgent need of replacement. Upgrades include new pedestrian and cycle crossings, improved road markings, resurfacing, and enhancements designed to improve journey reliability for the thousands of drivers who use the junction daily.

TfL explained that the delay was caused by unforeseen issues with a water main replacement, which impacted parts of the flyover renewal. The flyover will reopen to general traffic first, followed by the roundabout and surrounding roads in the weeks after. Until then, the junction remains closed to all vehicles except emergency services, black cabs, and London buses.

Havering Council Leader Ray Morgon welcomed the update:

“Following extensive pressure, including meetings with the transport commissioner and officers, we now have clarity on the revised timeline for the completion of the Gallows Corner flyover project. After months of uncertainty, it is encouraging to finally have a clearer sense of when this vital junction will reopen to our community.”
