FirstGroup has been named among the top-performing global companies for sustainability, earning recognition from three influential corporate assessments.

This year, the bus and rail operator improved its overall score in the S&P Sustainability Yearbook, placing it in the top 10% of the transport industry. Notable improvements were seen in environmental and social management, including energy and water use, and biodiversity protection.

Key achievements include:

  • S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment: FirstGroup was one of only 23 global transport companies featured, assessed from a pool of over 9,200 companies across 59 industries.

  • Clean200 ranking: FirstGroup rose five places to 118th globally, making it the 4th top UK company, based on revenue from sustainable products and services such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, and energy efficiency.

  • CDP rating: The company retained its ‘B’ rating from CDP, recognising robust processes for managing and disclosing environmental risks among over 22,100 global companies assessed.

Graham Sutherland, FirstGroup CEO, said:

“Being recognised on a global platform for our environmental, social and governance performance is testament to the work of our bus and rail teams. We are leading the way in decarbonising our fleet, reducing emissions, improving air quality, and protecting the environment, alongside investing in our people and creating a workforce that reflects the communities we serve.”

FirstGroup’s achievements highlight its ongoing commitment to sustainable transport, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility on a global stage.
