Network Rail has successfully finished £4 million of essential upgrades along the Inverclyde line, enhancing the resilience and reliability of key bridges and supporting railway structures.

Over an eight-day engineering programme, teams worked across multiple sites, carrying out critical repairs and renewals, including:

  • Greenock – repairing and replacing sections of supporting walls with new concrete.

  • River Gryffe Bridge – replacing the main deck and strengthening the steelwork.

  • Houston Road, Georgetown – steel repairs to reinforce railway supports.

  • Station Road, Langbank – repairing steel under the bridge and replacing part of the platform with durable modern materials.

Ross Moran, Route Director at Network Rail, said:

“Our engineers have delivered vital upgrades that will keep the Inverclyde line reliable for years to come. Strengthening key structures is essential to maintaining a safe and resilient railway, and we're grateful to customers for their patience while we carried out this important work.”

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, added:

“The upgrades will deliver long-term benefits for customers, improving the reliability and resilience of services on the route. We recognise that engineering works can cause inconvenience, and we’re grateful for the support our customers have shown throughout the project. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on board.”

The improvements ensure the Inverclyde line remains safe and dependable, supporting continued passenger and freight operations well into the future.
