Council eyes start date for £200m Newark bypass

The construction of a £200m bypass looks set to begin in March.
Lincolnshire County Council said it had asked the government to approve the final details of the North Hykeham relief road, which will allow it to get spades in the ground.
The new road will link the A46 Pennells roundabout to the Lincoln eastern bypass and will take about three years to complete.
At a meeting on Monday, the council's executive agreed to issue a formal instruction to the contractor, Balfour Beatty. This will allow the project to move to the construction phase – subject to sign-off from the Department for Transport.
Sam Edwards, head of highways and infrastructure, said the council was "looking to issue a notice to proceed in February and start work in March this year and that will take us to about May 2029".
New roundabouts will be built at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road and Grantham Road, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
A number of bridges will also be constructed, including at Station Road and over the River Witham.
