Carnell and David Foster to part ways

Carnell Group, the Staffordshire-based highway maintenance contractor have announced that its SHEQ Director, David Foster is to leave the business.

Mr Foster, who has been with the Penkridge-based company, is to leave the organisation at the end of the month to pursue other interests.

During David's time with the company previous owners Agger Limited agreed a deal to sell the business to Renew Holdings in a £38m deal which saw previous Chief Executive Darren Nelson depart the business.

Recently his replacement, Managing Director, Aiden Clarke also left the business with former A-one+ stalwart Andrew Sharp stepping into the role.

In a statement issued on social media on 1st September, Carnell said,

"After 4.5 years as SHEQ Director David Foster has decided it’s time to move on and take on other challenges and opportunities from the end of September 2021."

"We are delighted to announce that David’s successor will be Danny Pitcher who will take up the SHEQ Director role from 1st October 2021.

Andrew Sharp, Deputy Managing Director said “I am delighted that we have promoted Danny to the role of SHEQ Director and welcome him to the leadership team. I look forward to working with Danny and the rest of the leadership team to continue raising the threshold of excellence in highway maintenance.”

Speaking about his departure David Foster said “I am proud of what Carnell has achieved over the years in relation to health and safety, minimising accidents and incidents and gaining three consecutive RoSPA Presidents Awards. None of which could have been achieved without the support of employees throughout the business. Throughout the 19 years that I have known and worked with the busines (initially as a supplier and latterly as an employer) Carnell have always had a good health and safety reputation. Health and safety is an integral part of the company’s DNA that is driven by the Board and supported by employees.

Speaking about his successor he added,

“Danny has worked closely with me over the last 4.5 years gaining the skills, knowledge, and experience that he needs to fulfil his new role. I know that I am leaving the role in good hands and am confident that Danny will continue to promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the business moving forwards.”

Danny joined Carnell in 2004 and has worked in all parts of the business initially starting on the tools and gradually moving into Operational Supervisory and Management positions. During this time he was able to gain a good knowledge and understanding of all parts of the business. Danny subsequently joined the SHEQ Team in January 2017 and was able to use his operational knowledge to enhance our risk controls.

Danny said “I am delighted to be given this opportunity to lead SHEQ within the business and support Carnell and the Board moving forwards. David passes an excellent health and safety culture and accident reduction legacy to me that I will build on over the coming years. I look forward to leading SHEQ throughout the business and will continue to ensure that our risk controls continue to develop in line with the evolving needs of the business.”

Alongside Carnell other Renew subsidiaries include companies such as Amco-Giffen, Walter Lilly, VHE and Seymour.
