Police are appealing for information after thousands of litres of petrol were stolen from a motorway construction site near Cheltenham.

The incident happened at junction 10 of the M5, where early works are being carried out as part of a £372 million improvement scheme led by Galliford Try.

Gloucestershire Police said around 6,000 litres of fuel was taken from plant and machinery being used on the project. The theft is believed to have occurred over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, sometime between 5pm on Friday 23 May and 7am on Tuesday 26 May.

Offenders are understood to have entered a secure compound near Boddington before syphoning fuel from equipment on site.

Police have already reviewed CCTV and carried out forensic enquiries, but are now asking members of the public to help with the investigation.

Officers want to hear from anyone who may have seen suspicious vehicles or people in the area during the weekend. They are also appealing for drivers with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

The incident comes as preparatory works continue on the major M5 junction 10 improvement project, which is intended to upgrade local road connections and support future development in the area.
