Train operator c2c has announced that its Kick4Kindness charity football tournament will return to Southend United’s Roots Hall stadium for a second year, taking place on Thursday 21 May.

The nine-a-side competition will feature ten teams from across the rail industry, all competing for the 2026 title. Last year’s winners were Govia Thameslink Railway.

The event aims to raise both funds and awareness for local mental health charities, including Basildon Mind, South East and Central Essex (SECE) Mind, and Basildon & Thurrock and Southend Samaritans.

Iain Palmer, c2c’s Head of Revenue Protection and Security and the event’s director, said the inaugural tournament was a major success, bringing the industry together and raising £7,000 for charity. He highlighted the growing importance of mental health support, noting that many people rely on organisations such as Mind and Samaritans.

He also thanked Southend United for once again hosting the event at Roots Hall, describing it as an iconic venue, and said he looked forward to building on last year’s achievements with industry partners.

Denise Kent, CEO of Basildon Mind, expressed appreciation for the continued backing from c2c and Southend United. She said events like Kick4Kindness play a crucial role in supporting mental health services and bringing communities together, adding that the funds raised would directly benefit those in need.

Rob Lee, representing Basildon & Thurrock Samaritans, also welcomed the initiative, emphasising that donations help ensure the charity can continue offering support to people facing difficult times, around the clock.

Southend United’s Commercial and Marketing Manager, Rylee Doe, said the club was pleased to host the tournament again after last year’s success, and hoped the event would once more generate significant support for local causes.
