Birmingham road where most drivers are caught speeding as 53 fined every week

The Birmingham road where drivers are caught speeding most often has been named. Around 53 motorists are recorded speeding every week on a section of the busy A38 Bristol Road, making it the city's speeding hotspot.

Latest speeding details were released by West Midlands Police following freedom of information requests. A total of 2,785 motorists were caught breaking the speed limit on Bristol Road, between Speedwell Road and Priory Road, in the year to April 2024 - with average speed cameras operating in both directions.

The latest speeding figures, obtained by Legal Expert, have been released amid continued concerns around speeding in Birmingham, with police chiefs and council leaders determined to reduce the number of crashes on the city's roads.

Drivers are caught speeding in a variety of ways, including average speed cameras on roads they are operating and mobile police vans where they are not.

The police vans, equipped with cameras, visit problem areas and park up at the side of roads to monitor the speed of traffic.

Those clocked going too fast are sent speeding tickets. Depending on how fast they were going, they may be offered the chance to take an educational course in order to escape a fine and penalty points. They still have to pay around £80 for the course, however, which is in effect the same as a fine.
