AECOM has announced the appointment of Steve Higham as Managing Director of its Transportation business across Europe and India.

In this new role, Higham will be responsible for driving the company’s growth strategy, strengthening client relationships, and further establishing AECOM as a leading provider of transport infrastructure solutions in the region. He will also join AECOM’s regional Executive Leadership Team, contributing to the wider strategic direction of the business.

Higham brings with him 28 years of experience in civil engineering and transport infrastructure, during which he has developed a strong reputation for delivering complex, large-scale projects and leading multidisciplinary teams. He previously served as Managing Director of SYSTRA’s UK & Ireland engineering business, where he was also a member of the company’s Executive Committee. Over the course of his career, he has been deeply involved in shaping major infrastructure programmes, balancing technical innovation with the ability to manage diverse stakeholder groups.

His leadership style is characterised by collaboration and a focus on long-term client partnerships. By combining technical expertise with a clear understanding of market trends, Higham has consistently helped organisations deliver high-profile transport schemes that respond to both community needs and sustainability goals. These qualities are expected to add significant value to AECOM’s expanding transport portfolio and its commitment to delivering resilient, future-ready infrastructure.

Richard Whitehead, Chief Executive for Europe and India at AECOM, welcomed the appointment, saying: “We are delighted to have Steve join us. His extensive experience in guiding major transport projects and his proven ability to build trust with clients will be invaluable as we continue to grow. Steve’s leadership will play a key role in ensuring we provide transformative, innovative solutions for our clients and the communities we serve.”

Reflecting on his new role, Higham expressed his enthusiasm: “I am thrilled to be joining AECOM at such an exciting time for the transport sector. With governments across Europe accelerating investment in infrastructure, there is a tremendous opportunity to reshape mobility and connectivity. In the UK especially, the government’s commitment to fast-tracking delivery creates significant potential for the industry. I look forward to working closely with our clients, building on AECOM’s strong foundations, and leading our talented teams as we deliver transport solutions that are smarter, more sustainable, and better connected.”

Higham’s appointment underscores AECOM’s ongoing commitment to investing in leadership and expertise that will guide the company’s transportation business into its next phase of growth and innovation.
