Winvic Construction Ltd, a leading contractor specialising in civil engineering and construction projects for both public and private sectors, has achieved Net Carbonzero status through the Achilles Climate Impact Programme, verified under ISO 14064 Part 3.
The certification confirms that Winvic now operates as a Carbon Neutral business, having reduced its overall carbon footprint by 71% in line with Part 3 requirements. The achievement underscores the company’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and the transparency of its auditing processes via a globally recognised verification scheme.
Winvic began measuring its carbon emissions 13 years ago and has since implemented a wide range of initiatives to minimise its environmental impact. These measures include investing in renewable energy, battery backup generators, alternative fuels, energy-efficient systems, waste reduction strategies, and creating its Green Supply Chain (GSC) Forum to collaborate with partners on sustainability efforts.
In 2020, Winvic established its Sustainability Strategy, structured around four pillars: People, Innovation, Planet, and Community. This framework has guided the company toward key goals, including achieving Carbon Neutral status and contributing to seven of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since 2012, Winvic has tracked and reported its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, maintaining annual ISO 14064-1 certification through the Achilles Carbon Reduce Programme since 2022. This approach aligns with Science-Based Targets (SBTis) and industry best practices for carbon measurement and reporting. Operational data is collected from both sites and head office activities, enabling the company to actively reduce its carbon footprint across construction projects and the lifecycle of its built assets.
As part of its efforts to address Scope 3 emissions, Winvic launched the GSC Forum in 2021, fostering education and collaboration with supply chain partners on sustainability, decarbonisation, and social value initiatives. In 2024, the company became the sole main contractor representing the construction sector on the Advisory Board of the Policy Liaison Group (PLG) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) matters in Westminster.
Arun Thaneja, Technical Services and Sustainability Director at Winvic, said:
“Achieving Carbon Neutral status demonstrates our ambition to deliver sustainable buildings and infrastructure while creating a lasting social, environmental, and economic legacy. We are proud of this milestone and remain committed to reducing our carbon footprint, supporting our clients and GSC partners on their journeys toward Net Zero.”
Rob Cook, Managing Director – Civils & Infrastructure at Winvic, added:
“This certification highlights our responsibility as an industry leader to set the standard for sustainable construction. It allows us to support clients, including National Highways and other public sector partners, in achieving their own environmental and Net Zero objectives. While we are proud of this milestone, it is also a platform to go further, working collaboratively to deliver low-carbon solutions with real, lasting impact.”
To date, Winvic has completed 27 Net Zero Carbon projects comprising 96 facilities, with seven more underway. Additionally, the company has delivered 12 low-carbon projects, with another seven in progress.
