Safer Highways supported book shortlisted for National Award
'When I Grow Up', the groundbreaking book for children, designed to showcase the positive side of the construction sector has been shortlisted in the 2023 Selfie’s Book Awards.
The Selfies were set up in 2018 to recognise excellence in the self-publishing market and are judged on both the quality of the writing and the publishing expertise displayed by the author, with judges assessing the marketing campaign as well as sales, production values and cover designs when choosing the winners.
Jo Henry, Managing Director of BookBrunch commented "Year on year the professionalism shown by self-published authors gets more impressive, and this year I’m delighted that we’ve got a bumper crop of titles shortlisted for these prestigious awards, including four previous winners."
‘When I Grow Up’ follows twins Harry and Amy who are considering their future professions as part of their school careers day competition. The story covers a range of engineering activities and demonstrates to children that without the hard work of those in the construction industry, many other jobs would not be possible.
The purpose of the book is to inspire school children and engage with STEM subjects from a young age, building an appreciation in young minds that our industry underpins almost everything. The story captures children’s imagination through its colourful illustrations and rhyming verse.
Commenting online at the announcement Rich Smith, author of the book said,
"I think is highly unlikely that we will beat off the amazing competition in the Children's book category, all of which are what I would describe as “real books by real authors”, but I’m delighted to even be shortlisted!"
The winner will be revealed at The London Book Fair in AuthorHQ
