Vivek Chaudhri joins National Highways as a Non-Executive Director

Vivek Chaudhri to join National Highways on 2 March, replacing NED Janette Beinart whose term has ended.


Vivek will be joining National Highways as a Non-Executive Director, looking particularly to bring experience in IT and technology. 


He has served in Non-Executive Director positions in public and private sector organisations including East London NHS Foundation Trust and Queen Victoria NHS Hospital Trust. This reflects his extensive experience in operating at Vice President and Senior Vice President levels.

Welcoming Vivek to the Board, Chair Gareth Rhys Williams said: “Vivek has a wide range of technical knowledge and extensive experience in cyber and operations. He has a strong customer and delivery focus, so is the perfect fit for our Board.


“I would like to thank Janette Beinart for her commitment and dedication to National Highways over the years, including acting as interim Chair prior to my tenure starting. We will miss working with her.”


Vivek said: “I understand the level of challenges and cultural change National Highways will face over the coming years as the use of technology becomes more prevalent. I hope I can add real value to the delivery of the organisation’s purpose thanks to my years spent working in digital, data and artificial intelligence. I am looking forward to joining the team at my first Board meeting on March 31.”


Vivek is the co-founder of the Global Artificial Intelligence Leaders (GAIL) Network. Positions he has held during his career to date include:


  • SVP, Global Head of Digital Experience & AI at ITC Infotech;

  • SVP, Group Head Digital & Data Transformation at BAT;

  • VP, Global Head Digital Transformation at Boehringer Ingelheim;

  • Senior Director, European Head Digital & Data Transformation at Pfizer, and

  • Director, European Head of Digital & Data at Eli Lilly.


As a Board member, Vivek will sit on the Nominations Committee, Remuneration Committee and the Safety Committee.


He will replace Janette Beinart who has stood down at the end of seven years on the board. 

National Highways is responsible for operating, maintaining and improving more than 4,300 miles of England’s motorways and major A-roads.
