The connected vehicle safety company HAAS Alert is partnering with traffic information company Travel for Media in a new initiative to improve real time traffic content for drivers.
Safety Cloud® by HAAS Alert connects thousands of emergency fleets and millions of passenger vehicles by directly delivering safety alerts through the world’s leading navigation apps and compatible vehicle infotainment systems. The platform connects passenger and commercial vehicles to a global network of emergency vehicles, infrastructure, and unexpected roadway hazards. The solution delivers real-time safety messages to Stellantis and Volkswagen vehicles in North America and tens of millions of mobile navigation users globally via Waze and other navigation apps.
It is now taking a feed of hundreds of live traffic incidents collated by Travel for Media. The company uses high quality official real time data sources created to help manage and operate transport networks and reformats them into a single constantly updated data feed, all with consistent location and incident descriptors. This means it takes a very short time to integrate important information into data feeds, rather than having to treat each source separately.
“Our mission is to put an end to preventable collisions, injuries, and deaths, and the more information we can share with drivers, the safer they will be,” explained HAAS Alert’s Director of Strategy and Business Development EMEA, Gareth Evans. “We have wanted to integrate data from official sources for a long time but that represents a tremendous amount of resource and effort so we were delighted to learn that the experts at Travel for Media had already done this and it makes good sense to integrate their unified feed”.
TfM’s data is also offered on a dashboard of public and private road source data, as well as live public transport information and embedded Tweets. The service also includes a feed of data for websites, while traffic information app services are under development.
“It has taken a lot to combine all this data into a single, easy-to-use accurate feed and our highly experienced Technical Director Matt Jones has succeeded in creating an innovative and powerful tool,” commented Travel for Media Managing Director Nick Simmons. “The Travel for Media team has been working with traffic data feeds in all its forms for a very long time, so we know how to solve the difficulties involved, and we’re pleased to be offering this comprehensive data to companies that want traffic data but who have concluded that it is much more complicated to generate than they first thought.”
