A runaway cow caused chaos after a late night escape.

Police officers in Totton were called in to help catch the loose cow on the A326 in Totton on Sunday night.

Several roads were closed as officers safely tried to return the female cow home, but it was a “difficult task”.

Posting on Facebook, officers said: “Tonight’s lovely lady has a bit of ‘beef’ with the plan of the owners to get her back. She’s absolutely milking the attention she’s getting.

“We’re still on scene sorting out a plan to get her ‘mooving’ back home, but ‘hoofully’ she’ll be on her way ‘moomentarily’.

“There are closures in place at Jacob’s Gutter Lane and Hunters Hill”.

Later that night, officers confirmed the cow had been moved from the roads and all closures were lifted.

Many people commented on the post by New Forest Police, with one commenter writing: “How dairy you upset her, might need to udder some calm words.”

Another said: “Police steak out!”
