A group of traffic management operatives have been threated with a knife on the A63 Catle Street scheme in Hull, with a replica gun also found at the scene.

During the early hours of 24th January, an incident occurred involving two Traffic Management (TM) operatives working on a full closure at the A63 Castle Street Improvement Scheme.

At approximately 02:40, a member of the public (MOP) approached a TM vehicle parked at a side road closure. The individual, reportedly armed with what appeared to be a large knife, threatened the operatives who were inside the vehicle.

  • Upon being threatened, the TM driver promptly reversed the vehicle to create distance from the individual and immediately alerted another TM operative positioned further into the closure, completing paperwork inside a separate van.

  • The MOP then proceeded to approach the second TM operative. When the operative attempted to avoid the situation and prepare to leave the area, the individual walked around the front of the van, produced a firearm from their coat, and pointed it at the vehicle’s windscreen before walking away.

  • The first TM crew had already contacted the police, and a Traffic Safety and Control Officer (TSCO) arrived at the location shortly thereafter. The TSCO alerted all personnel on-site about the incident and instructed them to remain vigilant.

The police arrived at approximately 03:15 and apprehended the MOP. Later, a foreman from Balfour Beatty discovered what was reported to be a replica firearm near the scene of the incident. The police were informed, and the item was handed over to their custody.

One of the TM operatives involved in the incident was later called to the local police station to provide a formal statement.
