Roads Policing officers worked with Thurrock Council and partners to hold a day of action highlighting road safety issues and targeting drivers who were breaking the law.
The pair were joined by Safer Essex Roads in support of Vision Zero – our ambition to have zero road deaths in Essex by 2040 or sooner - by tackling the Fatal Four offences that are recognised contributory factors to killed and seriously injured collisions.
The teams worked together to speak to 170 drivers on Wednesday 31 January and educate drivers about the importance of driving safely and responsibly.
At the Lodge Lane static site, officers arrested four people, including three people in connection with drug driving offences.
Traffic reports were issued for 19 seat belt offences, nine mobile phone offences and four insurance and driving licence offences. Four vehicles were seized for no insurance, thanks to the support of a representative from the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) who joined the enforcement activities. Furthermore, 12 drivers were given tickets for other road-related offences.
The condition and roadworthiness of 19 vehicles was also checked by the team to ensure vehicles were fit and safe to be on the roads. One vehicle was issued a prohibition notice when it was examined and found to be unroadworthy because of bald tyres.
Window tints that were illegal were found on six windscreens, preventing a clear view for each of the drivers. The tints were removed by the drivers, with the worst tint only allowing 16% of light through.
Thurrock Council enforcement officers targeted illegal waste carriers.
Road safety is a force priority in which we continue to work with the Safer Essex Roads Partnership to make roads in Essex safe for everyone, to improve road safety across the county and reduce the number of fatalities on our roads.
We’re asking the public to support Vision Zero and take the Vision Zero Pledge which outlines actions all road users can take to ensure there is a collective responsibility for safety.
