The King Officially Opens British Transport Police's New London Headquarters

Royal visit marks completion of major relocation bringing key policing teams together at a new operational hub.

His Majesty King Charles III has formally opened the British Transport Police's (BTP) new London headquarters, marking a significant milestone in the force's continued modernisation and its role in policing Britain's rail network.

During a visit to the new headquarters on Buckingham Palace Road, The King met officers, police staff and representatives from across the railway industry, gaining an insight into the specialist work undertaken to keep millions of passengers safe every day.

Showcasing Specialist Policing Capabilities

The royal visit included demonstrations and discussions with a range of specialist units that support BTP's operations across England, Scotland and Wales.

His Majesty met officers from the Dog Section, Firearms Unit, Drone Team and Specialist Response Unit, learning how each contributes to protecting passengers, railway staff and critical transport infrastructure.

The visit concluded with The King joining Chief Constable Lucy D'Orsi to unveil a commemorative plaque officially opening the new headquarters.

A New Home for Operational Teams

The move to Buckingham Palace Road represents one of the most significant organisational changes undertaken by British Transport Police in recent years.

The relocation has brought together teams previously based at Camden and St James's Park, creating a single, modern operational centre designed to improve collaboration and support more efficient policing across the national rail network.

The new headquarters has been developed to provide contemporary working environments while strengthening coordination between specialist departments and operational teams.

Chief Constable Lucy D'Orsi CVO QPM described the occasion as an important moment for the force.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the diverse work carried out by colleagues from across the force and to highlight the benefits that this new headquarters will bring through greater collaboration."
