Formerly known as Highway Safety Solutions when it started life as a training provider in 2012, The Adjuvo Group as it is now has expanded over the past 5 years under Steven’s stewardship & now provides an array of support services to the Highways Industry across its 4 divisions.
Former shareholders/Directors Derek Vinning & Gary Horsburgh have now relinquished their stakes in the business leaving Steven and Rachel to implement their exciting plans for the future.
We caught up with Gary Horsburgh who had this to say about the deal;
“I founded Highway Safety Solutions 8 years ago to support my main business (Traffix Ltd) and provide our supply chain with Traffic Management Training. I had previously worked closely with Steven & have known him for more than 20 years. When I heard he and Rachel were moving back to the UK in 2015 after a number of years working overseas we spoke to him about taking over the training centre.Steven agreed to come on board and it has proved to be a very successful appointment. What was a small training centre turning over 100k a year has been turned into a multi-discipline business that has grown year on year under Steven’s guidance with annual sales now topping £2.3million. After 5 years hard work and with Rachel now working alongside Steven full time it’s only right that they reap the benefits of that going forward, the deal is right for the shareholders, and the timing is right for all parties. Traffix shall continue to work with The Adjuvo Group as a preferred supplier & we look forward to building further on the existing relationship.I’m delighted with how the past 5 years have turned out & I wish Steven, Rachel, & The Adjuvo Group every success in the future.”
The Adjuvo Group owe a great deal of their success to Steven’s undoubted ability to identify a need within the Highways Industry and produce a solution. One such example is the only self-funding apprenticeship scheme available to the Traffic Management Industry; designing & launching the scheme back in 2016 they have put over 300 operatives through the program since its launch & it was on the back of the apprenticeship scheme that Adjuvo’s temporary labour supply division was formed where they now employ approx. 100 traffic management operatives.
Adjuvo Digital, another of Steven’s ideas has seen the business expand its reach overseas, providing 3D animations & Virtual Reality experiences to businesses here in the UK & across the pond in America too. Working in partnership with one of America’s most respected businesses in the Highways industry, Royal Truck & Equipment Inc. (producers of the world’s first autonomous Impact Protection Vehicle), and its subsidiary Royal Innovative Solutions Inc. they recently won 1 st prize at the prestigious ATSSA Innovation Awards held at the end of January in New Orleans, for a suite of Virtual Training Programs they created for the American market. An outstanding achievement for the business!
We spoke with Steven about the deal & his future plans for the Group;
Q. I assume you’re happy with the deal, was this something that was planned?
A. Yes thank you, very happy, we’re delighted… from very early on I envisaged Adjuvo eventually becoming a family business. Rachel joined me here last year & our daughter Paige does a lot of our social media marketing in-between studying at University too, so it’s already a bit of a family affair. I wanted us to own the business outright eventually and there was an appetite from the guys late last year to expedite their own exit too. The time seemed right for everyone.
Q. I believe you’ve made some immediate new appointments to the board too?
A. Yes, my wife Rachel has been appointed as a Director to run the business with me, and we’re both delighted to welcome Greta Hemming to the board as Training Centre Director too. Greta has been with us since the business started & has done an unbelievable job as Training Centre Manager over the years. She’s a great asset to the business and the right appointment to work with us moving the business forward over the coming years.
Q. Do you have any other plans for the immediate future? Any big changes on the horizon?
A. We’re working on a number of key items at the minute, we’re at CON EXPO in Las Vegas in March with our American partners & we’re hopeful of great things to come from that side of the business after our award at the ATSSA convention last month. That’s such an exciting thing to have happened to us, VR has the potential to solve so many problems for organisations from a training standpoint and they’ve really bought into that in the US.We’re finalising a deal for the labour supply division that is due to be announced next month too. It’s something a bit different to our usual labour supply service, something that adds a lot of value for our customers that we’ve been working on for a while and people will get to read about it first here on HighwaysIndustry.com.We are launching a new service for the Highways Industry later in the year as well; something that is very dear to my own heart & something that we hope will give a huge amount back to the industry. It’s a work in progress right now but it’s something we’re very proud to be bringing to the industry & very excited about releasing.
