The UK and RoI’s largest manufacturer and supplier of mobile intelligent transport system (ITS) products and integrated solutions, SRL, has launched a Technical and Innovation Centre, in an investment designed to promote the ongoing development of leading-edge equipment for the traffic management, construction, utilities and events sectors.
The 6,000 sq ft Nottingham facility will accommodate and unite SRL’s technical and compliance team, providing dedicated facilities to support not only the design of new systems, but also the construction and testing of prototype models.
The two-storey building on Beeston Business Park near junction 25 of the M1 also houses a suite of meeting and demonstration rooms, allowing SRL to welcome staff and customers to the centre, which will serve as a training base and conveniently located meetings hub.
Said SRL’s business development director, Iain McDonald: “The launch of the Technical and Innovation Centre will support our technical and compliance team as they focus on innovation and developing industry-leading products such as our Multiphase Adaptive Detection System (ADS) which reduces average queue lengths at temporary traffic lights by 50%”
The launch marks the beginning of the next phase of growth for SRL following its acquisition by 3i Infrastructure plc in December, and accompanies significant investment in the firm’s human resource. The first quarter of 2022 saw expansion of the SRL team, including the recruitment of senior staff in new positions to help facilitate the company’s ambitious plans.
February brought not only the appointment of Iain McDonald, but also that of group financial controller Andrew Pearson and head of human resources Lucy Kennedy. In January, the firm’s Urban64 division expanded, with the employment of Dean Woodward as national operations manager.
SRL’s product portfolio comprises variable message signs (VMS), CCTV, traffic and pedestrian signals - including the Urban64 solution to coordinate multi-directional flows of traffic and pedestrians – signal bags, solar/hybrid work-zone protection barriers and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). Its products are available for hire and for sale.
Founded in 1997, SRL operates the UK and RoI’s largest distribution network comprising over 30 depots, and is the only manufacturer available to customers 24/7, 365 days a year.
