The Met Office has issued a number of weather warnings this week
Drivers across Scotland are being warned to expect two days of hazardous, icy conditions as another spell of wintry weather moves in.
According to the Met Office, fresh snow and ice could lead to travel disruption throughout the country in the coming days. After Storm Amy and Storm Claudia, forecasters say a mix of strong winds and freezing temperatures may create “problems” for travellers this week.
Showers of rain, sleet and snow are forecast to continue until around 6pm today across much of the mainland north of Perth, with snowfall expected to persist overnight.
A further yellow ice warning has been issued for large parts of the central belt and southern Scotland, lasting from 4pm today until 11am tomorrow.
Snow ploughs have already been out on the A82 and A9 as Bear Scotland reported difficult conditions on several north-west routes. The Met Office has cautioned that delays on roads are possible, with the risk of vehicles becoming stranded.
Pedestrians and cyclists are also being advised to take extra care, as untreated paths may become treacherous. Slips and falls on icy ground are considered likely, and some power outages or mobile signal issues may occur.
Rural areas could experience temporary isolation, and public transport may be impacted. Bus and rail services face the possibility of delays or cancellations, and some roads may need to close. Several CalMac ferry services have also been disrupted.
ScotRail is urging customers to check their journey status before travelling and to take extra care in the difficult conditions.
