Skanska has appointed former National Highways director Dean Sporn as divisional director for highways and aviation, strengthening its senior leadership team in the UK infrastructure market.

Sporn joins Skanska from National Highways, where he served as director of the regional investment programme for the south, overseeing the planning and delivery of a multibillion-pound portfolio of major road schemes. In the role, he worked closely with government, local authorities and supply chain partners to improve safety, performance and long-term resilience across the strategic road network.

Before moving into the public sector, Sporn built a career spanning more than two decades in the private construction sector, holding senior operational and executive roles in the UK and overseas. He began his career as a graduate engineer with Kier, progressing through project and contract management roles on major highways and civil engineering projects.

He later joined Dean & Dyball Construction as operations manager, where he was responsible for delivering complex infrastructure schemes, before moving to Balfour Beatty as a regional director overseeing highways and large-scale civil engineering works.

Sporn also gained international experience with CPB Contractors, where he served as general manager for New South Wales and New Zealand, leading large teams and delivering major transport and infrastructure programmes across the region.

His appointment reflects Skanska’s continued focus on strengthening its leadership capability by combining public-sector insight with deep delivery expertise, as the contractor looks to grow its highways and aviation portfolio in the UK.
