Shocking footage shows teen driver dodging other cars in 80mph chase on 30mph roads

A teenage motorist who reached speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone before he crashed a hatchback into the wall of a children's nursery has been spared jail.

Pursuit footage has been released by police capturing Zain Anwar, 19, almost triple the legal speed limit in a Toyota Auris. Police in Lancashire said Anwar, from Rochdale, overtook other motorists during the early-hours pursuit in the rain.

After the crash, he ran away from the scene but was tracked down and arrested after officers analysed CCTV cameras and the car he was driving.

Footage being recorded on board the Auris he was driving on a dash-cam was also released and showed the moment of impact. The car ploughs up the pavement then over a flowerbed into a fence and wall of the nursery.

Anwar, of Birkdale Road, Turf Hill, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

At a sentencing hearing at Burnley Crown Court, he was jailed for six months, suspended for 18 months, and banned from the road.

Officers from the Lancashire Police's Rural Task Force, based in Waterfoot, Rossendale, requested a Toyota Auris to stop in Whitworth, near Rochdale, in the early hours of September 3 last year.

A force spokesman said: "The Auris sped off and reached speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone, overtaking other vehicles.

"When the driver attempted to negotiate a corner at speed, he lost control of the car and it collided with the wall of a children’s nursery on Market Street, causing a great deal of damage.

"Zain Anwar, 18, who had been behind the wheel, fled the scene but was traced with the help of CCTV footage.

"Anwar, of Birkdale Road, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

"At Burnley Crown Court, he was banned from driving for 18 months and will have to pass an extended driving test. Anwar was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months."
