WJ Group is among the Safer Highways members that are celebrating a win at this year’s Highways England Awards.
WJ Group won the Highways England Excellence in Safety Innovation Award. Its ‘Robotic age dawns for the road markings sector’ submission featured the WJ Robotic PreMarker highlighting the huge health, safety and wellbeing benefits provided by eliminating risks and protecting vulnerable operatives.
This latest Highways England accolade for WJ follows on from last year’s prestigious Championing Safety Award win for ‘Transforming Roadmarking Sector Safety Standards’.
The award highlights WJ’s ambition, collaboration, and constant drive to evolve and improve safety standards within the roadmarking sector and recognise their excellence in safety and thought leadership.
Craig Williams, WJ Group Health & Safety Director commented “Our sector demands change, and we decided some time ago that ‘good enough was just not good enough’. For us it is a continuous journey driven by innovative thinking and behavioural change. To put it mildly, we are immensely proud that our efforts have been recognised at the highest level, and the award will encourage us to do more.”
The Highways England Awards scheme is designed to reflect on accomplishments, celebrate the absolute best achievements and share examples of excellence across the industry. WJ said it was also ‘delighted’ to be included within the Delivery category as finalists for its submission Exceptional Approach to Sustainable Service Delivery.”
Highways England was unable to host the live ceremony in Birmingham as normal during March 2020 and it was rescheduled twice before eventually delivering the awards virtually with everyone home safe and well.
Amey, also a member of Safer Highways won an award in the Customer - Employee engagement and behavioural change category for the mobilisation of its Area 10 contract.
