Safer Highways launches new anonymous mental health and wellbeing benchmarking survey

Updated: Jan 10

Safer Highways calls on the industry to help shape a new UK Health and Wellbeing Risk standard which focuses on workplace mental health and wellbeing.

It is to be developed by many key thinkers from across the highways, construction and transportation sectors as a new collaborative approach. However, unlike other standards, the approach taken is unique as at every aspect of the process, extensive consultation will take place with the sector as a whole.

In order to understand where the supply chain currently sits, Safer Highways and our other stakeholders are asking 150 organisations, of varying sizes, to take part in an anonymous baseline survey.

The findings from this survey will be used to shape the new UK standard, thus meaning a role will be created for stakeholders in the direction of travel, as we as employers work to better enhance workplace health.

Kevin Robinson, CEO of Safer Highways, says:

'Safer Highways was one of the first industry groups to benchmark ourselves against the Thriving at Work document. As a result, promoting this benchmarking survey to help develop a UK wide health and mental health approach, and supporting progression within the industry only seems natural.'

Laura Hague, the Chair of the ACE Health and Safety Group, says:

‘This is such an important topic. This piece of work will help us better understand the wellbeing and mental health risks so that we can start to look at root causes rather than just treating the symptoms. We wholeheartedly support this and look forward to working with all parties to develop this new standard.’

Stuart Pollard, the Global Resilience and UK&I H&S Director of Arcadis, says:

‘We are proud to support and contribute to the Green Laces survey, which aims to explore and improve psychosocial safety, occupational health, and mental health approaches within the UK industry.’
