Roads Policing Officers Patrolling Motorway Network in HGV as part of Operation Tramline

Roads policing officers from West Yorkshire Police will be patrolling with an elevated view next week as they take to the motorway network in an HGV.

The latest Operation Tramline operation will run from Monday, 19 June to Friday, 23 June. It is a joint initiative between West Yorkshire Police and National Highways utilising an unmarked HGV tractor unit to patrol the motorways to deal with drivers for a variety of motoring offences. Officers will be using video evidence to capture offenders committing moving road traffic offences whilst driving or in control of vehicles along the motorway networks.

Sergeant Ryan Burt, of West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “By utilising the HGV tractor unit, we have the benefit of not only being able to look down on smaller vehicles and into the driver’s area of the vehicle, but also into the high tractor units of other HGV and LGV’s.

“Operations such as this are all about keeping our roads safe. Badly maintained vehicles or poor driver behaviours can have devastating consequences, particularly when a large vehicle is involved.”

This is the second Operation Tramline week of action in West Yorkshire this year. In March, 110 drivers were stopped for motoring offences, with a stolen DAF truck also recovered.
