Road deaths across Lincolnshire rose to an average of one per week in 2024, provisional figures given to us by the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership reveal.
The total number of deaths on our roads went up to 53, from 49 the year before.
While there was also an increase in how many people were either killed or seriously injured*, 431- only a 3 person difference from the 2023 figure of 428.
*Seriously injured can include a range of outcomes; from a broken finger to injuries that leave the victims in life-threatening conditions.
The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership said they're 'disappointed' by the figures 'that seem to be becoming fairly static.'
Simon Outen-Coe, communications manager for the partnership, told us: "We look at the wider statistics to see what's causing collisions and how we can intervene.
"What we're always striving for is to reduce these numbers as far as we possibly can because it represents a huge amount of upset, distress, and agony to families across the county.
"What we will look to do again this year is look to identify any trends.
"The other side to remember is that- in the United Kingdom- our road's remain some of the safest in the world, despite these high levels."
Some of the collisions that claimed lives in 2024 include that of seven-year-old Elsie Gascoigne (crash near Metheringham), and a baby boy (crash near Grantham).
