Resident Raises Concerns Over Road Repairs in Blackpool

A resident in Blackpool has criticised recent pothole repair work on his street, claiming it has resulted in new problems rather than improvements.
Kristian Perry, who lives on Halton Gardens in the Marton area, said the road now experiences flooding during rainfall — an issue that did not occur before the repairs. He believes this is due to debris being left in drainage gullies, preventing proper water flow. He also raised concerns about the absence of road markings, suggesting it could pose a safety risk.
The concerns contrast with the council’s previously strong reputation for road maintenance. Blackpool Council has been recognised in the past for its efforts in tackling potholes, with national attention highlighting the repair of thousands of reported defects across the area.
Despite acknowledging that the potholes have been fixed, Mr Perry said the overall quality of the work has fallen short. He described the new surface as uneven, with visible bitumen residue affecting its appearance. He also noted that loose tarmac had initially been left on the pavement, although this was later cleared following an apology from site management.
Mr Perry expressed frustration that, although the repairs were completed more than two weeks ago, the drainage issues remain unresolved. He said the blocked gullies have already led to standing water on the road during wet weather.
While reluctant to complain given the effort to improve the road, he said the standard of workmanship and the way the project had been carried out were disappointing.
Blackpool Council has been approached for comment.
