National Highways is calling on members of the public to have their say on plans to upgrade the A46 Walsgrave junction in Coventry.

A public consultation period gets underway on Wednesday, October 25 and runs until Wednesday, December 6.

People are invited to comment on the plans for a multi-million-pound scheme that will provide smoother journeys through a well-known bottleneck.

The new look junction on the A46 – known as a grade separated junction – is currently valued around £112.5m.

It allows for a free flowing A46 carriageway while also providing road users with the option to enter and exit the local road network when travelling from either a north or southbound direction.

As well as removing the bottlenecks that cause substantial congestion on the outskirts of Coventry, the upgrade will bring smoother and more reliable journeys for drivers using this road every day.

National Highways Senior Project Manager, Joe Mulqueen, said: “We’re really keen to hear from people during this consultation period and we’d encourage them to get in touch with us or come along to one of our events. We know people will have questions and we’re more than happy to fill in some of the details and explain the plans.

“This scheme is incredibly important because the A46 is a strategic link between the East and West Midlands and connects Coventry and Warwickshire to the motorway network.

“Current levels of congestion at Walsgrave and the impacts this has on journey time reliability are having a serious effect on communities and businesses and would constrain future development in the area.

“Once complete, the improvements will alleviate congestion and provide an economic boost for communities across the region.”

There are a number of ways for people to get involved including a series of public events offering people an opportunity to speak to members of the project team. These are taking place on the below times and dates:

  • Saturday 4 November 2023 between 10am and 2pm at Wyken Community Centre, Westmorland Road, Coventry, CV2 5PY.

  • Thursday 9 November 2023, 9am and 5pm at Coventry City Centre, Broadgate W Orch Way, Coventry CV1 1NF.

  • Friday 17 November 2023 between 2pm and 8pm at Warwickshire Shopping Park Community Centre, 1c Kynner Way, Binley, Coventry, CV3 2SB.

  • Saturday 25 November 2023, 10am between 2pm at Coombe Country Park (Visitor Centre), Brinklow Road, Coventry, CV3 2AB.
