Police appeal for information following £20,000 highways thefts

Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for information following the thefts of manhole covers and gullies, amounting to a value of around £20,000.

The thefts, from Powys highways, took place on four roads across the county over the Easter weekend.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating several thefts that occurred between Friday, April 15 and Monday, April 18 2022 at various locations on the highways in Powys.

“37 gullies and six manhole covers were stolen from the A488 near Monaughty, the B4356, the B4357 near Maes-Treylow and the A44 near New Radnor.”

“The combined value of the property stolen is believed to be approximately £20,000.”

Time we were replacing metal gratings and covers with lighter weight composite materials that are safer for those who have to lift them and have no scrap value so are unlikely to be stolen.
