Applications have been lodged with Arun District Council to replace the existing cabins at the National Highways works depot in Ford with a new office building.
The application, submitted by Portakbin Limited on behalf of Kier Transportation, proposes demolishing the current storage container and constructing a single-storey office and welfare facility.
Kier explained that the project will also include the construction of a new garage for gritter lorries and traffic management vehicles next to the existing salt barn.
A preliminary ecological assessment has been carried out, and Jonathan Best, the council’s ecology officer, has raised no objection, provided certain conditions are met. These conditions include the installation of bird boxes, reseeding of bare ground, and planting of native species.
The council has invited comments on the proposal, with a deadline of December 27.
