Paragon Traffic Management Limited is strengthening its commitment to accessibility and inclusive traffic management through a new series of workshops delivered in partnership with Michael Barratt MBE and Transport for London (TfL).

The initiative, titled Back to Basics, is aimed at Paragon’s Head Office Support teams and is designed to improve awareness and understanding of how traffic management operations can directly impact accessibility and vulnerable road users.

The programme focuses on several key areas including inclusive design, communication standards, appropriate language, and practical accessibility considerations within live traffic management environments.

A major theme of the workshops is understanding the real-world challenges faced by disabled pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users when navigating roadworks and temporary traffic management layouts.

The training also explores wider social responsibilities connected to infrastructure and construction environments, including safety concerns around construction sites and awareness initiatives such as White Ribbon.

As part of the course, participants are being introduced to practical assessment tools including three-tier accessibility reviews, site visits, and structured feedback sessions aimed at embedding accessibility considerations into everyday operational planning.

The programme also includes an office accessibility audit to help identify opportunities for improvement across Paragon’s wider working environment.

A key element of the initiative is the emphasis on lived experience, ensuring that the voices and perspectives of people directly affected by accessibility challenges help shape future improvements in traffic management design and delivery.

The move reflects a growing shift within the highways and traffic management sector toward more inclusive approaches to temporary works and roadspace management.
