Norfolk County Council has unveiled plans for a transformative highways maintenance contract valued at £700 million, spanning a 14-year period.
This ambitious initiative will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including the upkeep of roads, improvements to transport facilities, waste management services, and the construction of essential infrastructure such as drainage systems and flood defences.
The contract seeks to appoint three contractors to handle a diverse scope of works. These projects include constructing key facilities like bus interchanges and recycling centres, developing sustainable transport links, and performing critical structural maintenance. In addition, contractors will provide support for emergencies and civil contingencies, reinforcing the council’s focus on public safety and resilience.
Applications for this opportunity are open until 13 December, with the council aiming to finalise its selections by late January. Norfolk County Council, which has consistently topped national satisfaction surveys for its highways and transport services, is committed to maintaining high standards of service while promoting sustainability.
This tender aligns with broader national efforts to modernise transport infrastructure and reflects the council’s commitment to supporting residents through effective service delivery and robust infrastructure development. The initiative highlights Norfolk’s long-term dedication to enhancing community connectivity and resilience amidst ongoing financial challenges.
