New 30mph speed limits are being introduced along one of Cornwall's most dangerous roads. It will replace the current 40mph speed limits which are in place through the villages of Landrake and Tideford along the A38 in south east Cornwall.
Devon and Cornwall Police's Road Safety Team has said the order for the new 30mph speed limit will go live later this month on August 20. It added that new signage will be going up over the next couple of weeks and roundels will be painted on the road surface to reflect the change.
The new speed limits form part of a £750,000 road safety scheme funded by National Highways and the Vision Zero South West Road Safety Partnership which is aimed at reducing collisions and improving driver behaviour. The project has also seen the introduction of a dozen new speed cameras along the stretch of the A38 between the Carkeel roundabout and Trerulefoot.
In a post on Facebook announcing the changes, a spokesperson for the Devon and Cornwall Police Road Safety Team said: "National Highways are introducing a 30mph speed limit through the villages of Landrake and Tideford on the A38. New signage will be going up over the next couple of weeks and painted roundels placed on the road surface. The extents of the order are exactly the same as the current 40mph limit.
"The order will be live on August 20, 2025. Fixed speed cameras are being installed in both villages to ensure the safety of residents, an issue championed by the Safe38 campaign.
"We will be enforcing from this date and will publish a further reminder. Sat nav systems will take time to reflect the new limit, so please share this far and wide. The aim here is to provide a clear warning to ensure that the numbers detected speeding are significantly reduced."
