National Highways has opened discussions with potential suppliers ahead of a major £120 million contract for advanced traffic management services (ATMS) across England’s strategic road network.

The new contract is planned to start on 21 May 2026, with an initial term of five years and the potential for a further five-year extension. The ATMS services will support all National Highways control rooms, helping to manage traffic across its 4,500-mile network of motorways and major A-roads.

As part of the procurement process, National Highways is hosting a preliminary market engagement event in Birmingham on 24 February. This session will give suppliers the chance to:

  • Gain a detailed overview of the services required, including traffic monitoring, incident management, and system operations.

  • Understand the technical and operational expectations for the contract.

  • Discuss the procurement timeline and process, including tender submissions, evaluation criteria, and contract award stages.

  • Explore opportunities to provide feedback on potential challenges and innovation in service delivery.

National Highways encourages all interested parties to register online by 12:00 on 17 February 2026 to attend the event. Insights gathered during the engagement will inform the formal tender documentation and help shape the evaluation framework.

This approach ensures that suppliers can clarify requirements, ask questions, and prepare competitive bids that align with National Highways’ operational and strategic objectives. Further information about the event and registration details is available via the National Highways website.
