National Highways’ delay decision on £100M Norwich roundabout revamp

Project's development consent order application pushed back following the national mourning period after the death of the Queen.

National Highways have delayed the decision on whether to grant the DCO to a £100m development in Norwich following the country's period of mourning due to the Queen's death.

Transport secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan was due make a decision on 20 September but in the afternoon the Department for Transport (DfT) announced that the decision would be pushed back.

Two other A47 schemes - the dualling of the A47 between Blofield and North Burlingham and between Easton and North Tuddenham - have been given the go ahead recently.

Main contractor Galliford Try is set to begin work later this year on both projects, which are two of six major improvements and almost half a billion pounds of investment National Highways is making to the 185km section of the A47 between Peterborough and Great Yarmouth.

Speaking about the latest delays a National Highways spokesperson said: “We understand and wholeheartedly respect the decision to postpone the announcement of the development consent order regarding Thickthorn junction due to the period of national mourning.

“We remain confident that our proposals to improve the junction will reduce congestion, improve journey times and, most importantly, make the road safer."
