Cumberland Council has received £100,000 from National Highways to improve the highway infrastructure in the Moresby area of Whitehaven.
The improvement works, organised by National Highways, include surfacing works, footway works, and drainage improvements along the A595 near Moresby.
During the ten-weekend closures on the A595 Moresby, near Whitehaven, the community faced significant disruptions and increased traffic on alternative routes.
As a gesture of goodwill and to assist in the repair and improvement of the local road network, National Highways has allocated £100,000 to Cumberland Council for repairs.
As part of the project, National Highways will also resurface several sections of road, including the stretch from the A595 to St Bridget’s Church in Lowca, from the A595 to Moresby Church on Rosehill, and from the A595 Howgate Roundabout towards Low Moresby Village.
Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said: “We are grateful to National Highways for their generous contribution, which will be dedicated to enhancing our local highway network.
“The recent improvement project on A595 near Moresby, being a National Highways initiative, reflects our collaborative approach to minimise disruptions for our residents.
“We are aware that diversions have been necessary during this period, leading to increased traffic on certain roads. This funding will play a crucial role in improving our highway network and addressing any impacts from the recent traffic diversions”.
National Highways is ‘proud’ to have contributed the funds towards improvements.
