More than 65 road repair schemes across Devon have been brought forward due to funding from the government.
Devon County Council will receive an extra £6.6m for highway maintenance this financial year.
The funding is part of a £8.3bn boost by the government to repair roads across the UK until 2034.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, cabinet member for highways management, said although "welcome" it would not "repair every road across the county".
Mr Hughes said the money "is a positive step in the right direction and gives us the means to tackle more high priority schemes than would otherwise have been possible".
The money comes after the HS2 rail line extension to Manchester was cancelled.
Mr Hughes said: "We've had to prioritise which schemes to bring forward using this money, but the decisions have been led by which roads have the greatest need and where we can get best value from the funding we've been given.
"We want to progress with work as soon as possible."
The initial schemes prioritised to start in the coming weeks are mostly minor routes and residential roads across the county, including Baddaford Cross in Ashburton, Lodge Lane in Axminster and Westland Lane in Cruwys Morchard.
