Marlborough Highways has been awarded a £115 million contract to maintain roads across the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM), marking a major shift in the council’s infrastructure partnerships.

The deal, set to begin in April 2026, will see Marlborough take over from VolkerHighways, who have managed the borough’s highways since 2017. The new contract will initially run for seven years, with potential for further extensions.

The tender process saw VolkerHighways and Associated Asphalt Contracting as the two unsuccessful bidders.

In a statement responding to the outcome, VolkerHighways said:

“We’re naturally disappointed not to continue our partnership with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, having built strong relationships and consistently delivered high service standards.Nonetheless, we remain committed to working with county and borough authorities where we can make a meaningful local impact. We’re proud of our record and will continue to pursue partnerships that align with our values and capabilities.”

The contract award is part of RBWM’s broader strategy to maintain and enhance road infrastructure across the borough, ensuring long-term value and reliability for residents and road users.
