It may have been amusing or irritating motorists in equal measure while it has been there but a misspelled sign on the M62 will be replaced, it has been confirmed.
The rogue sign spells Beverley without its last “e”, as in Beverly Hills, and has no doubt been the subject of some conversations, and possibly some tutting, by those who know how the name of the market town should be written. The motorway sign is on the M62 at Junction 38, where drivers can take the slip road to the B1230 for North Cave and Gilberdyke or continue on towards the A63 and Hull, Beverley and the Humber Bridge.
A recent post by one motorist contained an image of the sign. The post said: “Has anyone travelled down the M62 eastbound recently at Junction 38.
“Up until 2024, this road sign said ‘Beverley’ – and it has been replaced with this sign which has a very obvious typo. I’m quite surprised it has managed to slip through and nobody has noticed.
“It has been there for over a year now.” After the slip-up was reported to the Hull Daily Mail, this in turn was flagged to National Highways.
In a statement, a spokesperson for National Highways said: “The relevant team are aware of the error and the sign will be replaced in the near future.”
