Drivers heading to the Bristol areas have been warned to allow extra time for journeys on the M32 as seven weeks of overnight closures get under way.

Diversions will be in place while surveys and inspections take place on the Eastville Viaduct at junction 2.

National Highways says the routine surveys are needed to assess the current condition of the motorway to help identify any future work that may be required. Survey work started on the underside of the viaduct in November 2024.

From the middle of this month surveys on the topside of the structure will take place on both the carriageway of the M32 and on the entry and exit slip roads at junction 2. The latest work means a number of carriageway and slip road closures will be required at the junction.

The closures will be overnight between 8pm and 6am. Motorists are being urged to plan their journeys before setting out.

Sean Walsh, route manager for National Highways, said: “Safety is our number one priority, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. However, we need to carry out these structural inspections to ensure the long-term maintenance and safety of the road.

"We understand that road closures are frustrating, but by closing the road, we can get this essential work done safely and quickly, causing less disruption overall."
