Some of the UK’s top fleet electrification companies have joined forces to create ScotCharge, a new consortium focused on accelerating the decarbonisation of Scotland’s heavy goods vehicle (HGV) sector.
Supported by Transport Scotland through its £2 million HGV Market Readiness Fund, Dynamon, Fleete Group, and VEV will jointly develop a roadmap for transitioning Scotland’s 36,500-strong truck fleet to electric power.
The three lead consortium members received funding in September 2025 as part of Transport Scotland’s HGV Consortium Builder programme. The wider ScotCharge consortium includes around 50 organisations from across Scotland’s transport ecosystem, including fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers, and independent distribution network operators.
An initial business case for ScotCharge is expected by December 2025, with a full report scheduled for March next year.
Key elements of the programme include:
Fleet data analysis – led by Dynamon, to assess electrifiable routes, identify optimal EV models, determine charging infrastructure needs, evaluate site power requirements, and calculate total cost of ownership.
Hub infrastructure development – led by Fleete, covering site selection, surveys, design, costings, and delivery of charging hubs accessible to commercial fleets.
Depot electrification – led by VEV, including site design, power strategy, and the financing, delivery, and operation of depot charging infrastructure.
Decarbonising HGVs is a key part of the Scottish Government’s commitment to achieving net zero by 2045, while also creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth and energy resilience.
Amber Jamieson, HGV Decarbonisation Team Leader at Transport Scotland, said:"The HGV Market Readiness Fund is enabling operators, manufacturers, financiers, and charge point providers to collaborate on innovative projects that drive investment in HGV decarbonisation."
