Kier has appointed company veteran Barry Jupp as the new Managing Director of its Highways business, reinforcing its commitment to promoting talent from within the organisation.

The appointment takes effect from 1 July, with Jupp assuming responsibility for one of the UK's largest highways operations, overseeing around 2,000 employees delivering construction,

maintenance and improvement projects across both local authority and strategic road networks.

A familiar face within the business, Jupp has spent more than two decades at Kier, progressing through a series of senior leadership positions. Most recently, he served as Finance Director for the company's Transportation business, where he played a key role in commercial performance, business planning and operational strategy.

Throughout his career with Kier, he has also contributed to several joint venture boards and helped drive improvements in areas including digital delivery, commercial management, health and safety, and operational performance.

In his new role, Jupp will focus on supporting clients across the highways sector while continuing to strengthen delivery standards, customer relationships and business performance.

Commenting on his appointment, he said he was honoured to lead a business he has been part of for much of his career.

Jupp said his priority would be supporting Kier's workforce while building on the company's existing reputation for safe, reliable and consistent project delivery across the UK's road network.

His promotion is being viewed as another example of Kier's emphasis on developing internal talent and creating long-term career pathways for employees.

James Birch, Managing Director for Transportation within Kier Infrastructure, said Jupp's extensive industry knowledge and leadership experience made him well positioned to guide the highways business through its next phase of growth.

He added that the appointment would help ensure Kier continues delivering critical infrastructure services that improve connectivity, support economic growth and maintain some of the country's most important transport networks.
