CIC moves to greater clarity by aligning its name to principal brand.
In order to give greater clarity and visibility to its governance process, Safer Highways are delighted to announce that the Community Interest Company (CIC) which gathers memberships on behalf of the organisation will now bear the same name, and indeed be the managing organisation for all activity going forward.
The move brings all of its brands (Stamp it Out, The Road to Wellbeing, Suicide Prevention and Protecting our People) together under one umbrella organisation, thus offering greater clarity on direction.
The move follows confusion around the naming of the CIC last year and is a further step towards clarifying its established role within the Highways sector, meaning that the Community Interest Company will also now bear the Safer Highways name.
The move, which was initially planned to take place in 2020, but was put on hold by the global pandemic, will now come into place with immediate effect with the renaming of the CIC having already been ratified by Companies House.
Effectively this means all member companies will now own a stake in Safer Highways Community Interest Company and will give a greater degree of clarity around governance, a bigger stake in how memberships are spent and more ownership of our programmes.
Speaking about the move CEO, Kevin Robinson said,
“Last year we founded a Community Interest Company to allow the membership to have a greater say in the governance and strategy of the organisation.
“Sadly the name of the CIC caused a massive amount of confusion and as such we have now aligned all of our activity under the single Safer Highways name.
“Our aspiration was to be as transparent and clear in our vision as we could and as such aligning the name of the CIC and the brand was something of an obvious move.
"We have already appointed the relevant legal and financial teams to make the process as seamless as possible and I promise that from an operational perspective it is business as usual."
“Becoming a Community Interest Company has already allowed us to move on to the next level.
“The organisation has evolved rapidly over a short period and this news means that Safer Highways Community Interest Company is now better positioned to provide a real benefit to the industry.
“We’re already at the centre of sharing good practice, skills, experience and knowledge across the sector.
“Becoming a CIC and aligning our brand in this way puts us in an even stronger position and will open up opportunities to secure funding that will enable further progression in these areas.
“Ultimately, we want to help all of our members and this means that we’ll be able to give even more back to the sector.”
The change, effective immediately, mean that going forward all memberships and related sponsorships of Safer Highways activity will be managed independently and directly answerable to the memberships.
All of the Safer Highways events and activity will now be funded directly from the central pots with all monies surplus to the current year’s activity reinvested the following year, thus ensuring a sustainable future for the organisation.
