Heathrow Airport has announced the appointment of Kari Sprostanova as its new Health, Safety and Wellbeing Director, bringing extensive experience in workplace safety, sustainability, and employee wellbeing to one of the world’s busiest airports.

In her new role, Sprostanova will oversee Heathrow’s health, safety, and wellbeing strategy, ensuring the airport continues to operate to the highest standards while supporting the welfare of both its workforce and passengers. She will play a central role in maintaining a safe working environment across all airport operations, from airside activities to terminal services.

Sprostanova joins Heathrow from Mace, where she has held multiple senior roles, including Group Health, Safety and Wellbeing Director since August 2024 and Director of Health, Safety & Wellbeing since June 2021. Prior to Mace, she served as Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability Director at Balfour Beatty plc from April 2018 to June 2021, leading UK-wide safety and sustainability initiatives across complex construction and engineering projects.

Beyond her corporate experience, Sprostanova is one of the founders of the Stamp It Out anti-abuse programme, aimed at eradicating workforce abuse in the construction sector, and is a senior voice on the Construction Leadership Council, contributing to industry-wide safety and wellbeing initiatives.

With over a decade of experience leading health, safety, and wellbeing programmes across large, complex organisations, Sprostanova has a proven track record of fostering a culture of safety, operational excellence, and staff engagement.

Sprostanova said:“I’m thrilled to join Heathrow Airport and to work with teams committed to embedding safety and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. Protecting the health and welfare of both staff and passengers is a responsibility I take very seriously, and I look forward to driving continuous improvement across the airport.”

Her appointment comes as Heathrow continues to focus on operational resilience, employee engagement, and the implementation of innovative safety measures across its airport network.
