Greater Manchester Rolls Out 320 New Real-Time Passenger Information Displays Across the Bee Network

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has begun deploying 320 new Real-Time Passenger Information (RTPI) displays across the city region as part of ongoing efforts to enhance journey quality, accessibility, and passenger experience on the Bee Network.
The rollout, supplied and managed by Vix Technology, began in December with a pilot installation at North Manchester General Hospital. This first display marks the start of a wider program designed to provide passengers with live, reliable travel information at bus stops, shelters, and transport interchanges throughout Greater Manchester.
William Garratt, project manager at Vix Technology, said:
“The installation of the first display was an exciting moment, a vital step for the Bee Network towards smarter, passenger-focused mobility in the city region.”
The new RTPI estate is designed to support passengers as they plan and adapt journeys across the increasingly integrated Bee Network. Screens are engineered for a range of environments, from robust outdoor units to large-format indoor displays, and include energy-efficient, battery-powered signs for locations without fixed power.
All displays are securely monitored and controlled via Vix’s display management platform, ensuring real-time oversight, system resilience, and consistent performance. The full rollout is expected to be completed by 2026, representing a major milestone in TfGM’s ambition to deliver a fully connected and accessible public transport network for the city region.
The initiative forms part of TfGM’s Improving Journeys program, which aims to make everyday travel smoother, safer, and more inclusive. Several of the new displays feature text-to-speech functionality, supporting passengers with sight loss and ensuring that real-time travel information is accessible to all users.

The new RTPI system is expected to significantly improve journey planning for thousands of daily passengers, reduce waiting uncertainty at stops, and enhance overall confidence in using Greater Manchester’s public transport network.
