Carmaker Porsche is reported to be in talks with Google to install its software onto their cars’ head units, meaning drivers will be able to get a range of connected services without pairing their phones.
Reuters reports that the two businesses are in talks to enable Porsche customers to access to Google applications like Google Maps and Google Assistant without needing to connect the car to an Android phone.
The report adds that Porsche had previously been reluctant to use Google software because Google asked for too much data to be shared, according to Manager Magazin, which first reported the talks.
Reuters explains that the big tech companies Google, Apple and Amazon are in a “race to control” carmakers’ dashboards as software becomes integral to car design.
