GBR Anglia celebrates decade of investment during Better Transport Week

GBR Anglia is supporting Better Transport Week 2026, an annual campaign celebrating the benefits of public transport, shared transport, walking, wheeling, and cycling.

The campaign, which runs from Monday 15 June to Sunday 21 June, highlights how better transport connects people and places, including access to jobs, education, healthcare, leisure and local services.

Across Anglia, sustained investment* over the last decade has helped make rail travel easier, more accessible and more sustainable for passengers and communities.

Since 2017, five new stations have opened across the region, helping to improve access to the railway for growing communities. These include Cambridge North, Meridian Water, Soham, Barking Riverside and Beaulieu Park.

Cambridge South will become the latest new station on the network, with services due to begin calling there on Sunday 28 June.

The new station has been developed with sustainability in mind, including approximately 400 solar panels along its roof and platform canopies, as well as improved access to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and nearby communities.

The progress made over the last decade also reflects the direction of travel for GBR Anglia, as c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia now work under one leadership team to bring track and train closer together. By improving planning, strengthening day-to-day coordination and joining up decisions across operators and infrastructure, GBR Anglia is focused on making journeys easier, more reliable and more sustainable for passengers across the region.

Alongside major infrastructure projects, improvements have also been made across the network to make rail travel easier and more accessible.

These include increasing cycle parking at stations and raising awareness of local transport connections, helping passengers complete more of their journeys by public transport, walking, wheeling and cycling.

Rail remains one of the most environmentally friendly forms of transport, producing significantly fewer carbon emissions per passenger kilometre than cars while also helping to reduce congestion on the country’s roads.
